What we Do
Kayaking
Kayaking is an enjoyable way to improve physical health, wellbeing and confidence whilst benefitting from being out in our beautiful blue and green space.
We have a number of sit-on-top Kayaks which are very stable and perfect for beginners. We also have the option to progress to racing kayaks as you gain experience
Bellboating
Bellboating is the perfect way to get on the water as a group and experience the versatility of what bellboating has to offer.
A great team building activity focusing on everyone working together whether that is paddling to take in the scenery, learn about the history of our canals or team training for competition
Access to Community Competitions
Competing is a great way to set goals and focus on personal skill development.
We provide training for and access to community competitions enabling individuals of all ages and abilities to compete in a fun way

FAQs
Do you have changing rooms?
There aren't any changing rooms but there are toilets just across the carpark at sainsburys which can be used to change in if needed.
Are there any toilets?
We don't have any toilets but there are toilets at the retail park in Sainsburys, Costa, Starbucks and McDonalds.
What should I wear?
We recommend waterproof trousers or quick drying fabric and shoes you don’t mind getting wet. Avoid denim or heavy fabrics and always bring a change of clothes.
Do you have lockers?
We don’t have lockers but can provide dry bags for any valuables.
I can no longer attend, what should I do?
Equipment is prepared before the session for all expected attendees. If you are no longer able to attend, please do let us know as soon as you can by texting 07726785614
Is there anywhere to park?
There is parking at sainsburys which is free for up to 4 hours. There is also free parking at Selly Oak train station.
Will sessions go ahead if it is raining?
Sessions will go ahead in light to medium rainfall. We may cancel sessions if windspeeds are high. We regularly check weather updates to ensure the safety of sessions.
What is the minimum age to take part?
The minimum age is 8yrs for kayaking and Bellboating. Younger children can share a kayak with an experienced adult or can Bellboat sitting on an adult facing seat at our discretion.
I'm running late, can I still take part?
We recommend you aim to arrive 10-15min before the session start time to get kit on.
If you arrive late for the ssession we cannot guarantee you'll be able to take part.
Will I fall in?
There is a possibility of falling in but this is unlikely. Paddlers begin with sit on top kayaks which are very stable. Progression to less stable boats will be once paddlers feel ready and Instructors are trained to deal with capsizes.
Will I get wet?
When using a sit on top kayak, the seat does get wet.
Sit in kayaks are dryer, but drips from the paddle means your lap will get wet. A change of clothes is always recommended.
Our Story
Established in 2023, South Birmingham Paddle Club CIC (SBPC) is one of seven community paddle hubs across Birmingham as part of a wider project of community engagement with paddle sports. Each hub has paddling activity along the canal aimed at providing access to paddling. Whilst SBPC is a stand alone paddle hub, the other hubs are attached to local organisations all doing great work within our communities.
